HDS는 한국외국어대학교의 유일한 의회식 영어 토론 동아리로, 아시아 의회식(Asian Parliamentary)과 영국 의회식(British Parliamentary) 토론을 통해 보다 전문적인 영어 토론을 하고 있습니다. HDS는 2005년도에 창립된 이래 올해로 17년째 활발히 활동을 이어가며 국내외 토론 대회에서 큰 성과를 거두어 왔습니다. 

HDS는 한국대학생영어토론협회(Korean Intervarsity Debate Association, 이하 KIDA)의 소속 멤버로, 경희대, 고려대, 서강대, 서울대, 성균관대, 연세대, 이화여대, 한양대 등 14개의 대학교와 활발히 교류하고 있습니다. 타학교 영어 토론 동아리와의 연합 세션 진행, KIDA 워크숍 참여, 대회 주최 및 참가 등의 활동을 통해 새로운 인연을 만나고 인맥을 넓힐 수 있는 소중한 경험을 가질 수 있습니다. 

 

HDS는 토론을 직접 하는 것뿐만 아니라, 대회 스태프와 심사위원으로도 꾸준히 활동하고 있습니다. 특히, 지난 몇 년간 한국외대와 YTN이 함께 주최하는 YTN-한국외대 청소년 영어토론대회의 운영 스태프를 맡아왔습니다.

Established in 2005, the HUFS Debate Society (HDS) is the only English parliamentary debate association in Hankuk University of Foreign Studies. We are a group of competitive debaters who aspire to reach higher and think critically through English Parliamentary debate. We actively engage in national and international debate championships and have achieved significant results. 

We are a member society of KIDA (Korean Intervarsity Debate Association) which comprises of active debate societies from 14 different universities in Korea, including Ehwa, Hanyang, Korea, Kyunghee, Seoul, Sogang, Sungkyunkwan, Yonsei, and more. Through KIDA, we participate in workshops and tournaments, where we learn, debate, and socialize with people from other universities. 

We debate in both the British Parliamentary(BP) and Asian Parliamentary(AP) styles. We not only debate, but also adjudicate and host tournaments. Moreover, members of HDS get the exclusive opportunity to work as the organizing committee or the adjudicator for YTN-HUFS Youth English Debating Championship.
